Virtual Shopping Online

So today...I'm really bored. I know, I'm working right now. But seriously, I'm really bored. So I was just doing some virtual online shopping (where i put the stuff in the cart and dream about buying it, but don't) and here's what I came up with.

And from Urban Outfitters
I've been dreaming of these boots for a while now. I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair of boots, unfortunately these babies are about $300. So I'm still hunting :)

Happy Christmas

So our official holiday movie is Love Actually. It is probably the best movie ever. Well, it's really good. and it takes place in the 5 weeks leading up to Christmas, so there's tons of Christmas music, Christmas themes, parties, etc. It is absolutely fantastic. We watched it last night, and again this morning....I just can't get enough.

the countdown begins....

13 days until we hit the road. i'm so excited....but with the dwindling number of days, that means the less procrastination i'm allowed. So in an effort to not leave anything to the last minute, i've decided to pack the house one room at a time. I have packed two rooms so far, the 2 least used rooms...and i'm saving the kitchen for this weekend. i have a feeling it will be the hardest. after the kitchen, we'll have the bedroom, dining room and living room. yay! that i've given my notice at work, i have absolutely nothing to do. Seriously. I thought it was bad before, where only 4 hours of my day were taken up by work...but now it's probably 45 minutes. So...i've found quite a few blogs i really enjoy. and i'm very excited about it. it's a good thing we're on a spending freeze otherwise i could've really made a dent the last few days...

Holiday Party

So last night was the Pebble Beach Holiday party at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was quite delightful. They rented out the entire aquarium and had various food buffets scattered around. So we got to eat a little by the Great White shark, and a little more by the jellyfish. It was fantastic. I'm still waiting to find a picture of mike and I together, but here's a pic of me and my co-workers. They decided it would be fun to all wear bow-ties. Don't they look precious??

So it's official....we're comin' home

yes yes...the rumors can be confirmed. Mike and I are officially moving back to the great Salt Lake Valley. Due to unforeseen personal issues (that's how we're wording it, officially) we have decided to relocate out of California and back to the promised land.

So, this means that I am jobless...and will be actively pursuing a position somewhere doing something. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Saturday, November 17, 2007

A little while ago, my brother Craig came up for a quick visit. He was in SoCal visiting friends and made the long haul up to Northern Central California to say hello.
I'm apologizing in advance, but i have to give some back story for this to be funny. In March, Mike and I visited Craig in Hawaii. While we there we were taking so many pictures, we decided we'd turn it into a little game called "1, 2, 3". Basically, Mike and I would have our backs to the camera-man (Craig), and he'd call out "1 - 2 - 3" and then we'd turn around really surprised and he'd snap the photo. It was great! In every shot we looked really excited, like we just won Wheel of Fortune.
So when he came to visit, we were out at lunch and I wanted to get a picture together before he left. So we thought 'Hey, let's do a 1-2-3 picture'. Well, it didn't really turn out as planned. The auto-focus was acting crazy while Mike was trying to take the picture, so we were standing there trying not to move from our turned stance so as not to mess up the picture. But in the end, it just made us look like we were in a JC Penney ad.

Getting Ready....
JC Penney ad...
Normal us. :)

America Recycles Day

Of course, every TreeHugger knows that it is America Recycles Day, (for TreeHuggers every day is a recycling day) started ten years ago to increase awareness of the importance of recycling. There are activities across the country, that you can attend, or you can "Make an Effort to Make a Difference. As our slogan says, it all comes back to you. Even a small shift in your attitudes and actions, multiplied many times over by others accepting this challenge, can change the world."

Halloween Fun

So we were excited to actually live in a neighborhood that children might come trick or treating in this year, so in our anticipation we bought a few bags of candy to pass out. I tried my best to not let mike eat any...but by 5pm on Halloween there was only 1 snickers bar left in the bowl. He did leave about 12 Reese's PB Cups, but that's a total of 13 pieces of we went to plan b. Leave.
So we pulled out our costume bag and dug through our previous years costumes. Mike was a rocker, and i was a breakdancer...though i don't breakdance. But we headed over to a co-workers house to hang out and pass out candy. All in all in turned out to be a fun night...we ended up playing darts, with multiple throws of mine ending in the sheetrock. And mind you there is a 4 foot piece of plywood surrounding the dart board so no darts hit the wall. Yep, that's right, my aim was so bad I missed the miss board. But no one was injured...

I hope you all enjoyed your spooky holidays.

Uh-Oh Boredom....

I cut bangs.

I was bored.

This shouldn't happen.

So then i decided to blog about it. and in my attempts to photograph myself, my husband lovingly showed me the Photo Booth application on the new iMac. It's so fun. You get to pick all these different effects for your photo. So instead of trying to pick one, i picked five. So here are five different ways of looking at my new haircut.

Knowing me though, these new found bangs will only last about 4 days, then i'll start pinning them back and combing them to the side until they grow out. Or at least until I decide at another time of boredom to cut them again.

Save The Planet, Save The World

Bloggers Unite - Blog Action Day

Mike and I try to save the planet by:

-Not using plastic grocery bags
-Setting the water on medium/low when washing dishes (as opposed to full power)
-Recycling (Mike now rinses out food containers so they can be recycled. our goal is to not have any garbage)
-Turning the lights off when we're not in the room (this is a hard one for me)
-Shorter Showers

What do you do to save the world?

Pumpkin Cupcakes

So, to tie over some Sunday boredom I decided to get domestic and bake some cupcakes. And not just any cupcakes, pumpkin cupcakes. One of my favorite vegetables! (probably because it's usually in the form of desserts and pies)
So in case your in the Fall spirit, here's the recipe. It's from Martha Stewart .com. And the frosting recipe's just one that's known I guess.

Pumpkin Cupcakes
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp coarse salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp groung dinger
1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) unslaed butter, melted and cooled
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree

1. Preheat over to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners; set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice, set aside.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together, brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, and eggs. Add dry ingredients, and whisk until smooth. Whisk in pumpkin puree.
3. Divide batter evenly among liners, filling each about halfway. Bake until tops spring back when touched and a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, let cool completely.

Cream Cheese Frosting:
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 8 oz block 1/3 Reduced Fat cream cheese (feel free to use full strenth if desired)
3 cups sifted powdered sugar

1. Beat vanilla and cream cheese with a mixer at hight speed until fluffy
2. Add powdered sugar and beat at low speed just until blended.

Mike and I have already had 5, so I'm taking the rest to work tomorrow so our teeth don't fall out by the end of the week.
Oh yeah, and I substitute Pumpkin Pie spice for all the spices except Allspice. Enjoy!!

The Golfs-mans

Mike and I went golfing yesterday...and we were so good we thought we should change our last name to Golfsman.
Well, it wasn't real golfing to some. We played at Peter Hay Golf Course, which is a Par-3 9-hole course.'s right by the first tee of the Pebble Beach course, and it's free to walk on any time. So it's much more convenient then this whole tee time business.

It was pretty funny...we showed up with our golf bags and gloves, ready to show what we've got. Then we realized that only about 4 people on the course actually had a bag full of clubs, most people just carried the 3 they brought with them. That should give you an idea of the level of playing this course demands.
It was pretty much like a putt-putt course, you just had to hit it 75 yards to start the putt putt part.
But we had a great time, we even had a whole family of deer with us on the 8th whole. Friendly.

My First BLT

Okay. Seriously...I've had sandwiches before, and I'm not so sheltered that I've never come into contact with a BLT. It's just, I've always created my own variations of the sandwich like a BLC or a BCM. (bacon lettuce cheese or bacon cheese mustard)
You see, I've never been a fan of tomatoes. And growing up there were lots of different foods i didn't enjoy, bleu cheese, vegetables, etc. And most of them I have grown to enjoy if not love. But tomaotes have been one i've just had trouble enjoying...but every 6 months or so i try again and still don't like them.
Now that we live in Central California, land of produce (i really think 50% of the country's produce is grown here if not more) but here i've been trying harder. A few weeks ago we had BLT's (i of course had my own version) and Mike forced me to eat a bit of his sandwich with the tomato. well, it wasn't all bad. now i'm not going to go so far as to say that i really loved it, but i didn't want to vomit when i ate it. And that's a big step.
So today, mike and I had BLT's for lunch and I officially had a traditional BLT with Bacon, lettuce and tomato. nothing less, nothing more. and i enjoyed it.
It's one more step to being a grown-up I guess.

We Love You Barry!!

So yesterday was my birthday!! the big 2 8. I'm getting sucks. But i'm having fun doing it, and that's all that matters i guess.

So for my birthday, Wednesday night mike and I went up to a San Francisco Giants game. We had no idea it was such a big game, Barry Bonds last game. It was a great takes abotu 1.5 - 2 hours to get to San Francisco from our house. No big deal, the games starts at 7.15 so we might be a little late. But...after we arrive in SF and are driving down the street near the park we realize we need to park our car. The lots around the Ball Park all had signs saying $30 - $50!!! and some of them were even sold out! I couldn't believe it. It cost more to park then it did to actually go to the game. So mike and I decided that was not gonna work (and we didn't have that much cash anyway and most lots only take cash) so then we drove around for about 30 minutes until we found a meter spot about 7 blocks away.

Once we got into the park it was so much fun....everyone had signs that said "Thanks Barry", everyone was wearing their Orange and Black and it was packed! The stadium holds 43,000 people, and they sold 42,994 tickets. Crazy!! but so much fun. We were at the game for about 30 minutes when Mr Bonds came out to hit the ball....his last time at bat. He smacked it, and everyone was standing to see yet another home run. Much to the worlds disappointment, it wasn't quite far enough and the outfielder caught it to give the Giants their 3rd out of the inning....
The AT&T Park stadium is so nice too. It looks right out into the's beautiful. And we had such perfect weather too. That day I swear it was 80+ degrees..which is not common around was so nice. I told mike we'll have to go back next year when it's more in the summer so we can see the sunset during the game....

Here are a few more random pics from the game
This is apparently supposed to be Barry Bonds...but i can't confirm that. I'm not really sure.
Sorry we look so horrible in this photo. We had some young kids take it that were sitting behind us...i was really embarrassed to ask so I made mike ask.

Big Sur

So last night (Friday) Mike and I started to go a little crazy. We felt like we were trapped in this little town with nothing to do. So this morning we woke up and decided to explore, and what better to explore then Big Sur. After I googled it, I found out it was only 30 miles away...seriously.

We actually ended up driving almost all the way to San Luis Obispo. I think we got in the car with the intention of driving for most of the after we saw and passed Big Sur within the hour we decided to keep going. We went all the way down to this little place called Ragged Point. We stopped and had lunch, it was cute a small and not completely overpriced as I was expecting. We pondered getting gas there as we only had about an 1/8 of a tank left, but after we saw the gas prices of $4.15 we decided against it.

Much to our chagrin, about 20 miles later the gas light came on. I thought mikey was going to die of a heart attack. He couldn't stop saying things like "i've never run out of gas before", "i can't believe that the first time i run out of gas is the one place we have no cell reception", and "what are we going to do when we run out of gas". Talk about negative thoughts...I'm all about positive thinking... Then I noticed that he's driving as fast as possible, like driving faster will help us get to the gas station sooner....even if you're using more gas? But in the end, we made it. The little 4-cylinder Mazda really can run on fumes...
When we pulled up to the gas station I found it odd that there were no gas prices posted...then when you actually looked at the pump there were still no gas prices displayed. That's when I got nervous. It's not until after you put in your credit card and are actually pumping the gas that it displays $4.79 per gallon!!! I really couldn't believe it. So I turned the key so we could watch the gas gauge and stop when we reached a 1/4 tank. No way I'm spending $400 on gas when I'm 20 minutes from home...
After mikey was done pumping he pressed Yes for a reciept. I said "we don't need a receipt" and he said "yeah we do. I'm taking a picture of it." So we did.
But overall we had a great time. We would've camped except every single camp site was booked...even the non-online ones. Every camp site we passed had signs out "Campground FULL". But it was a beautiful maybe next time we'll plan ahead and book a campsite in advance.

So here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. They really don't do it justice, so if you come visit us, we'll bring you to see for yourself. With a full tank of gas of course....

Oh yeah, one of the most beautiful sections of beach we thought was fully surrounded by this barbed-wire fence and No Tresspassing sign....bummer.

Seal vs Sea Lion vs Sea Otter

I'm just wondering how many of you really know the difference between these 3 things. Yeah, i know, they're 3 different animals. But how do you tell them apart.

The other morning we took our dog for a walk down by the ocean. As he was running back and forth along the beach chasing the birds we noticed a creature head in the water following him. This made me nervous at first, maybe it was an ocean alligator or a lock ness monster. but then our dog spotted it out in the water and it instantly disappeared under the water. Then a few moments later it was back a few feet to the left...watching. then it did a little backdive into the water and we could see it was a cute little guy. I was thinking "oh, what a cute little sea otter" at the same time mikey said out loud "hey, did you see that seal".

Thus bringing us back to the original question, do you know the difference?

Mod Mum Baby Slings

So my cousins have started this little Baby Sling company...and the slings they have are so so cute. If you'd like to check them out, they're at

Very Very Cute....

Pebble Beach Golf Course

So this past sunday, I had the pleasure of playing on the Pebble Beach Golf Course. Now, I'm no golfer...well I say 'I try'. I know the game and how it's played, I'm just not good at it. I have issues actually connecting the club with the ball. But i have a good time, and that's all the matters, right?

If nothing else, it was an absolutely beautiful day. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather. I played with my boss, my boss' boss, and a co-worker. It was nice that we didn't actually keep score, so I don't have to share my pain with you.
And...I only lost 5 balls. Mike laughed at me when I said that as a good thing. But everyone I was golfing was nervous that I only brought six. Apparentley they were aware of my skills, or lack thereof. So, that fact that I only lost 5....I was pretty impressed.
Needless to say though, I am very very sore today. I never realized the amount of muscles you use all throughout your back. I guess everytime I've played golf before was in tournaments where you play best ball, therefore decreasing the amount of golf swings I take by about 90%.

Now all I have to do is keep playing so next time I'm not so sore. Mike's already been to the driving range a few times, so I have a feeling this will become a new family sport. How exciting! And now when you come to visit, we can take you golfing and not have to feel bad about ourselves....
